The chullo is a traditional Andean hat, very characteristic of the Andean region. It is woven from alpaca, llama, sheep, or vicuña wool and is distinguished by its long ear flaps that hang down the sides and are usually tied under the chin for added protection from the cold. Its function is to protect the head, ears, and partly the face from the intense cold of the Andean mountains.
