Two vintage tenmoku (天目) guinomi/yūnomi by award-winning ceramic artist Hisada Shigeyoshi, each in a contrasting style. Both pieces come with their original signed kiri (paulownia) boxes, marked with his signature「重義」.

Shigeyoshi is widely recognized for reviving and innovating Classical China's Song-dynasty Ji'an (建盞) glazes. His work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and appears regularly in auctions and gallery sales worldwide.

The Met writes:
“Hisada Shigeyoshi was one of the few contemporary artists to experiment with new types of tenmoku glazes while also re-creating traditional examples […] The artist submitted the vessel ‘Wind’ to the 25th Tōkai Traditional Art Craft Exhibition, where it won the Grand Prize of the Traditional Japanese Art Craft Association.”

These cups show the classic tenmoku qualities, deep glossy glaze, mottled or oil-spot effects, and warm iron-rich tones. Ideal for use or display.

Condition: Excellent. No chips/cracks.
