The Detroit Pistons won 122-104.

The tension between these two competitors reached its boiling point during Game 3 of the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals when Laimbeer committed what Bird considered a dangerously flagrant foul, pulling him down while Bird was mid-air attempting a shot. The resulting melee—with Bird throwing punches and later firing a basketball directly at Laimbeer—forever crystallized their mutual hatred.

Bird and Rodman also had a little dust up during this too.

This was also the “Steal by Bird” series which would come in Game 5.
