“Deep in Dartmoor”

The eminent listed artist, Robert James Lugg (1877-1951), was a renowned painter, who excelled in works of watercolour. This scene depicts what appears to be a view of a tranquil babbling brook. However, what lurks in the distance is a menacing mountain. Lugg’s antique watercolour work is highly collectable and can be often found auctioned for three figures. The artist has left his name in the bottom left corner. Significantly, Lugg’s original painting and frame are in superior order. Like his closest contemporaries, it was common for his works to come under hammer. Size 44x34cm. NB: this lot sold in Pontrilas Auctions for £135 and some to think £19 is excessive!
