Classic A.J. Thewalt German beer stein, made in the Westerwald region of Germany. This one’s a mid-century reproduction from an 1884 mold, showing a detailed tavern scene with the German saying:
“Alte Thaler, junge Weiber, sind die besten Zeitvertreiber”
(“Old coins and young women are the best time-killers.”)
It’s made from gray stoneware with cobalt blue relief, stamped “Germany” and the Thewalt triangle-T mark on the bottom. The number 11 under the handle is a factory mold mark.
About 8.5 inches tall and roughly 1-liter size. No chips, cracks, or damage — just light shelf wear from age.
