Maker and size: These charming green and cream colored 10 1/2 inch cabinet plates were produced by the iconic manufacturer Ridgway of England in August 1829. The date is taken from the impressed numbers on the back of the plate. The 8 over 29 means August 1829. The plates have a hand written pattern number which was typical of the time period.

Ridgway produced earthenware and ironstone goods in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, from the 1790s to the late 20th century.

Ridgway is among the most illustrious families of English potters. The dynasty was founded by Job Ridgway, who established the famous Cauldon Place Works in 1802 in what is now Stoke-on-Trent. The golden era for Ridgway was the first half of the 19th Century, although potteries bearing the Ridgway name continued to operate into the 1960s.
Ridgway porcelain dates from 1808, the year Job took his two sons John and William into partnership. In his memoirs, Job wrote that he ‘erected a manufactory by the Cauldon Canal.
