From the Challenge from the Darkness (Japanese pokemon set) also called Gym 2
In Japan "Gym Heroes" was Gym 1 "Leader's Stadium" released Oct 1998 and Gym Challenge is Gym 2 "Challenge from the Darkness" in June 1999
thus when remade to english sets, Gym Heroes (Aug14-1999) and Gym Challenge (Oct16-2000) sets came out in US after, this gengar lost his crosses in his graveyard due to the banning of crosses
Japanese cards of this era are known to have used bluish tinted paper stock as seen in pic 12 from the split so I was comfortable buying it myself, everything about it especially if youre a collector since the start, shows its genuine (font, holo pattern, internal bluish tint)
All being said the card is just as hauntingly beautiful as without damage
